DESCRIPTION:
CS Hunt is a brand-new, CS-themed puzzlehunt organized by PuzzleHunt CMU. Each puzzle is thematically inspired by a famous (or infamous) SCS course or assignment. It's open to all majors (not just computer science) and is designed to be very manageable for first-time puzzlers. So if you've never tried one of our puzzle hunts before, this is a great opportunity to see what we're all about!

CS Hunt/FAQ >

So is CS Hunt your Spring Puzzlehunt this year?

>

No, the spring hunt will still be happening in a few months. This is a new puzzlehunt we are adding to our regular season.

Do I need to be a CS major?

>

Nope! You don't even have to be a student here. Everyone is welcome.

Is CS Hunt a CTF?

>

No, it's less technical than that--no programming is actually required. It's a traditional puzzlehunt that's just themed around the School of Computer Science. Each puzzle is thematically inspired by a famous (or infamous) course or assignment.

How much CS do I need to know?

>

We have designed the hunt to be accessible to anyone with some programming experience. The more SCS classes you've taken, the more likely you are to appreciate our jokes, but each puzzle was designed to be solvable without advanced CS knowledge. You just might need to Google a few terms here and there.

How much puzzle experience do I need?

>

None at all! In fact, CS Hunt was specifically written with first-time puzzlers in mind, so this is great opportunity to introduce your CS friends to the world of puzzlehunts!

How long will this hunt take?

>

However long you want/need (until 8:00pm). CS Hunt has about half as many puzzles as we usually use, and just one round. Unlike our other hunts, we will not be distributing prizes at a closing ceremony. Instead, every team who finishes the Meta before the hunt closes at 8:00 can come and claim their prizes right away.

How do I participate?

>

You can register a team here (maximum six people): bit.ly/cmupuzzles. Participation is completely free.
